Quests

Ancient Ember has a bounty quest system with 10 quest templates. Quests are offered by specific NPCs via dialogue — talk to them to accept, then return when complete to claim your reward.

You can hold up to 3 active quests at once. Active quests appear in the EMBER stats panel only when at least one is accepted.

Quest List

# Name Objective Reward

Quest Types

Type What counts
Defeat Trainers Any trainer battle win
Catch Pokémon Any wild Pokémon caught (species doesn’t matter)
Defeat Type Defeating any Pokémon of the specified type (wild or trainer)

Progress is tracked automatically — no need to talk to the NPC during the quest. Return only when you see QUESTS: X/3 in the EMBER stats showing progress.

How to Start a Quest

Talk to the Quest Board NPC in a town. The NPC offers a specific quest by ID — you accept or decline. If your 3 slots are full, the NPC will tell you and you cannot accept until you complete or abandon one.

Each Quest Board NPC is hardcoded to offer a specific quest. To get variety, find NPCs in different towns.

Note: A browsable quest selection screen is planned but not yet implemented. Currently each NPC offers exactly one hardcoded quest.

Completing a Quest

Return to the same NPC that gave you the quest. If your progress meets or exceeds the target, the NPC automatically completes it, clears your slot, and gives your rewards.

The NPC’s dialogue will show:

  • Quest name (in {var1})
  • Shard reward (in {var3})

Quest Slot States

Status Meaning
Empty Slot is free
Active Quest accepted, progress tracking
Complete Target reached, return to NPC for reward

A completed quest still occupies a slot until you turn it in — don’t forget to claim rewards.
